Unique Tags from Downloadable Mixed Media Collage Paper

One of my favorite things to do is to work on a mixed media tag.

These little cardboard rectangles are the perfect mini substrate for a quick trying out of a new technique or as a way to create something quickly in a small window of time.

They are great little artworks on their own and I often end up incorporating them in to art journal pages so it is a win-win.  Even if I don't like the result they can be torn up to create unique collage pieces too.

This range of tags were created using five of my mixed media collage papers that I created for my Etsy store.  You can use any piece of artwork - original or a photocopy - and take a portion of the artwork and stick to a tag.

I covered these copies of my own artworks and then went on to embellish them using stamps, gold & silver markers and small pieces of other artwork.  The finishing touches were made with metallic punched hole reinforcing stickers and some stamped or sticker words and sentiments.

Ooh.....the possibilities....!

Art Journaling for Self Care

Art journaling is one of my favorite things to do for self care.

Alongside my yoga practice, my next go to self care pursuit is art journaling.  Nothing is more therapeutic than time spent cutting, gluing, painting and marking.

I have written about the benefits for our health in a blog post on my sister blog, yogaskinny.  You can read the article in full here

Upcycled Gift Card Holders for the Holidays

upcycled greeting card gift card holder

Now I know you have a box of holiday & greeting cards squirreled away in your stash.  We can't bear to part with them can we?  They must be good for a craft project.

Yes, we've all made gift tags from greetings cards but how about taking that thought one step further to create gift card holders.

You can have a bunch of these ready in an afternoon!

Supplies you'll need

    -    old holiday cards

    -    plain card

    -    festive ribbon

    -    glue stick or double sided tape, hole punch, corner cutter (optional)

    -    scissors and scalpel

How to

Cut the fronts off of your chosen holiday cards and trim.  Cut a slim gift card wide slot about one third down from the top of the card.

Cut your plain card to size for backing and glue or tape into place avoiding the area where you will slide the gift card in.

Finish with rounded corners and a small hole to thread your ribbon.

Write your greeting on the reverse and slide in to an envelope, decorate the tree or hang with your Christmas stockings!
