I'm always very excited to receive my quarterly copy of Somerset Studio. It's the ultimate happy mail! Packed full of inspiration.
Somerset Studio has always been a great mixed media magazine but more recently has become more of an interactive journal. What do I mean by that? Well, now, not only does it pack great artwork and crafts in to its covers but it also includes a bunch of free craft papers, interactive projects to do within the pages and how to articles demonstrating new techniques.
I was very excited and honored to have two projects included in the latest edition of Somerset Studio. They're two projects that I submitted in response to the call for entries on the theme of 'The Power of Words'.
This little mixed media booklet was made from the heart cards of a pack of playing cards. Using printed papers, ephemera, washi tape and acrylic paint I decorated each card leaving a hint of the heart card that lay beneath.
Each card was then finished with my favorite short quotes printed and pasted on.
All of the finished cards were bound in to a small book format by gluing and hinging with a scrap of sari silk. I decorated the original card box tied with sari silk ribbon to hold the finished book.
My second project was a simple concertina booklet of 2" squares with each square displaying a collaged, mixed media letter. The quote is one of my favorites - Be The Change.
