Hand Decorated Plant Gift

Hand decorated succulent plant gift

I can't resist those little succulent and cactus plants that you often see outside the store for a few dollars.  Quite often they are in simple ceramic plant pots.  Here's a great way of personalizing one of these with some handcrafted art.  Perfect for gifting!

Mehndi for the inspired artist

I came across this beautiful book recently of beautiful mehndi artwork that is used in henna painting and decoration.

Starting with basic patterns such as paisley and flowers this book leads you through the more intricate patterns of mandalas and birds.

I took some of the simple patterns and using oil based markers (I used fine point markets) created a freehand pattern around the plant pot.  You can use a soft pencil to mark out your design first.

I used a semi circle pattern with tiny circles embellishing the curved edges and small dropped leaves at each meeting point.  The techniques are all clearly illustrated in the book.

I used white and silver on this dark brown ceramic pot.

If you're looking for a simple way personalizing a small gift for that plant loving someone in your life then this is a simple way of adding a special touch.

The book also dedicates several pages to other gift and decorating ideas for jewelry, boxes and vases.
