Travel Meditation Tin

Travel Altar - for Yogis & Meditators

A project for those who love to practice yoga & meditation - create your own mini travel yoga altar.  Use on your travels or make one to use if you take your yoga & meditation practice about the house!

Materials required:

  • Small hinged tin.  An Altoids mint tin would work just great or you can buy blanks from craft suppliers
  • Handmade paper or fabric of your choice.  I love these handmade Nepalese papers
  • Glue stick or double sided sticky tape
  • Meditation cards or small handmade meditation cards about the size of a business card
  • Small tea light with matches/matchbook
  • Small bunch of sage.  This is a great Etsy seller of sage.
  • Small collection of precious, inspirational, personal items.  This may include small photos, jewelry item, crystals or favorite pieces from nature - dried flowers, small pebbles

First draw round the tin lid to create a template on a scrap of paper.

Use your template to cut four round cornered rectangles.  Glue one to the lid and one to the base.  Trim any excess.

For the two internal rectangles trim the your cut rectangle edges by 3mm all the way round before gluing one to the inside of the lid and the other to the base of the tin.

If you are including a tea light, sage and matches you might like to cover your matchbook with coordinating paper.

For this I carefully removed the staple holding the matches inside the matchbook and glued on paper cut to size.  Remake the matchbook by stapling the matches back in.

Alternatively, you could tie a few matches together and cut the 'strike' strip off of a matchbox and glue to the back of the tin.  (please note: if you're traveling by plane do not include any matches in your luggage or carry on!!  Buy your matches at your destination)

Now for the extra fun!  Fill with your favorites items and some meditation cards which you can make with your own creative style.  Or buy some ready made ones here and add your own favorite quotes & mantras.

Now you're good to go!  Happy travels!

throw in to your travel bag for yoga & meditation on the go!
